At the end of the winter season, on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna (February/March), people celebrate Holi. It is a spring religious festival in India. It is primarily observed in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka. In West Bengal and Orissa of India it is known as Dolyatra. The most celebrated Holi is that of the Braj region, in locations connected to the god Krishna: Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandagaon, and Barsana. These places have become tourist destinations during the festive season of Holi, which observed here up to sixteen days. People in Rajasthan, Gujarat and North India celebrate Holi in great style with folk dancing and colour throwing.
In Holi (also known as Dhuli Vandana), people throw colour powder and water to each other. In few places in South India people lit bonfires a day before which is known as Holika Dahan. The bonfires are lit in memory of the miraculous escape that young Prahlad accomplished when Demoness Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, carried him into the fire.

Celebrations by milkmen in Orissa : Milkmen, ‘Gwalas’ carry the palanquin on their shoulders, for Krishna belonged to their clan. Dandi Khela ( a game ) is also played to mark the day special one. People relish the special delicacies like Pithas(cakes), Laddoos(sweets) on the holy Holi day.

Whole nation wears a festive look, market places get abuzz with activity, heaps of various colour-gulaal and aver, loaded pichkaaris with coloured water can be seen outdoor. My Childhood Memories: Although I am living in Bhubaneswar now, in those days during Puja, apart from enjoying the holidays with my village fiends in Jagatsinghpur district, Puja, also had special memories. Our group used to take part in village Puja in the evening and then we all proceed to near by Balikuda Bazaar to see Goddess in Pandals and people in new dresses. Used to bring prasadam for family and elderly people of village. And ( funny mood ) yes also for our then little girlfriends and give them prasadam avoiding people.

Shopping this festive season: Still there are few days remain to Puja, I have already in the puja mood and started shopping for my sister and mom. And during puja, it is their ( Familiy ) choice to shop anything, I just have to accompany.

What I love about the puja: In Bhubaneswar, during the puja in October month, the climate itself is very romantic and the divinity of Goddess make it a sacred moments all through the pujas. I also like the way the processions go one by one in lines after puja.


Onething I would like to change this Puja: I would not say it a change rather call it an addition, if it can be possible. That during the melody programs, after puja or during the puja, if few awareness and semi edu-entertainment programs such as Health, Environment, AIDS, Swine flu, Computer & Internet educations etc can be initiated jointly by Govt. and organizers. It would be fruitful to younger generations and general publics. And Govt can create special tourism packages for foreign tourists and outside people who visit Orissa.

My Prayer this Puja: My prayer this year will definitely include, “ Orissa’s culture-festivals should become popular outside. Online presence of Orissa Tourism should boost the most in comparison to other states such as Kerala, Rajasthan etc. And ( with smile ) of course, hope I should tie the knot this year. And this way will get a chance to take my online marketing goal to a new height.

My Plan: As, I have never taken any holiday vacation so far since I have started my career 11 years ago, I will be taking an exclusive week-time holidays vacation and visit relatives, friends. And of course, I am planning to plant a tree for 3 days during puja.

EVERY THING THAT HAD HAPPEN, WAS ALL FOR GOOD. Because When a good blessed person like Sachin is there in any place, everything happens, is for good in every angle. All good things happened in IPL 2010 Final are :

1. Sachin, who is the greatest player in the history of Cricket, scored most runs and hit most 4s and won the Man of the series.

2. His admirers all over the world witnessed and appreciated that, despite having 5 stitches in one hand and swelling in other hand, with open blooded fingers, their hero came out to contribute to his country and to stand by the expectation of his admirers. It is not easy job for everyone.
